hi, for the purpose of designing concrete shell reinforcement required an output of membrane forces, moment and shear. It seems US3 only provide stress output display. Is there output of forces available directly, or some work around by request stress output data and doing integration along thickness manually? thank you
i try opening FRD output files, and it seems to be possible, but has problem in reading thickness data since stress reported at nodes of 2D element. Hopefully all shell forces output of US3 element is available in the future.
It does not seem like US3 is expanded into a solid element unlike e.g. S3.
Would it be an option for you to use S3 elements instead? Then you could use OUTPUT=3D.
thanks, i’m interested in classical or conventional shell element since US3 element of CalculiX perform better compared to MITC of any solver. Unfortunately, no output directly of shell forces.
p.s linear triangular expanded shell element (S3) is not usable almost, at the same mesh all result are way of.
Looking at “Output variables” in the “Theory” chapter of the manual, Cauchy stress (shells) in the integration points is what you can get.
There is of course SOAREA, SOF and SOM, but that can only be calculated for surfaces. So you’d have to use 3D elements.
it seems US3 element more straight to obtaining shell forces (only needed to know thickness properties), expanded shell can be complex due to mapping back in 2D and stress extrapolation at outer faces when reading from dat files.
reporting shell forces is common for classical element, as it does in beam U1 of CalculiX.
