Hi all, I have had a go at learning calculix. I can see it is a great tool but not being an engineer it is over my head. CalculiX has 1D elements (beam and truss) that you could use for such analysis. Internally they are expanded to solids but it shouldn’t be a problem. Just be sure to run the analysis a few times with different numbers and types of elements to verify the correctness of the results - beam elements in CalculiX are particularly sensitive to that.
