Shell layers overlapping

I am curious how Calculix treats layers(elements) which are overlapping from different shell planes. I am aware that the solution of each shell is only extrapolaited along the thickening. But there has to be some sort of criteria, where Calculix decides on which shell the overlapping elements belong to. Are there any information about this issue?

This is explained in detail in the User’s Manual (paragraph 6.2.14 Eight-node shell element (S8 and S8R)) taking into account the expansion to solid.

Yep… This user manual is pretty useful. I do not know about the other guy who has asked the question about the Shell Layers Overlapping, but for me, this user manual is sufficient. Step by step instructions are provided for the users.
