How to use *restart?

@liberty
Without success I tried to reach you in the prepomax forum. I see you have posted a new 0920.zip file there in where I still doesn’t fully understand your way of approach so hereby a link to a PrePoMax file containing multiple steps.

PrePoMax2.1.0_MultibleStep.pmx

  1. Be aware of PrePoMax doesn’t always have forward/backward combability so I recommend you use ver. 2.1.0
  2. Since plastic is defined in the material and the load exceed yield stresses the result will rely on this.
  3. The Steps are defined as static why loads are stepwise static loaded without any updates in load directions
  4. In case steps are changes to NonLinear you will get a slightly different result since load directions are stepwise updated
  5. If you want the fully advantages of Calculix I will recommend also seeking answers in the Calculix manual

Thanks for your reply. I will have a try.

I successfully replicated the above operation in calculix, but kept getting errors in prepomax. Is the operation process of prepomax different from that of calculix?

PrePoMax doesn’t support restart for now. The best way is to prepare the input decks using PrePoMax, add the *RESTART keywords, submit outside of PrePoMax (renaming the files when necessary) and then use it for postprocessing.

After adding freuqency=2 to the input file, I am unable to output the .rout file, which is quite strange.
*Restart, write, Frequency=2

How many increments do you have ? This setting should write the restart data every second increment (although the documentation mentions steps which is strange).

** Step-1 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
**
*Restart, write, Frequency=2
*Step, Inc=100
*Static
0.5, 1, 0.5, 0.5
**
** Controls ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
**
** Output frequency ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
**
*Output, Frequency=2
